This is a link to a website that has 7 different trash sculptures. They are really neat. I'm thinking about comparing our project to this, but I'm hoping to find more things that relate to our message. I had to share this website because I liked the different techniques they used to make each object.Caitsterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02445915238890126957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603410706516918511.post-53366869954329912592011-12-06T11:58:00.002-06:002011-12-06T12:06:51.975-06:00Basket Building<a href="http://www.eugeneandtex.com/AmazingBuildings-LongabergerBasketBuilding.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 800px; height: 587px;" src="http://www.eugeneandtex.com/AmazingBuildings-LongabergerBasketBuilding.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://blog.somethingto.be/wp-content/gallery/basket-building/basket-building-blog-somethingto-be_.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 500px; height: 333px;" src="http://blog.somethingto.be/wp-content/gallery/basket-building/basket-building-blog-somethingto-be_.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><p style="font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; text-align: -webkit-auto; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; "><br /></p><p style="font-weight: bold; ">This is the Longaberger basket making company building. These giant snails will appear at key entrance points into Miami as well as the Art Deco Welcome Center over the course of six weeks, slated to make their first appearance at the <a title="Art Basel Miami Beach" href="http://www.artbaselmiamibeach.com/" jquery1323190328628="44">Art Basel Miami Beach</a>, then making their way west to bask under the Florida sun.<br />The snails originated in Italy, where the Cracking Art Group (CAP) is infamous for creating a number of other giant animals and sculptures (CAP is known for sticking tortoises in the 2009 G-8 Environmental Summit in Siracusa, Italy). The group is committed to sustainability and expresses their fervor through creating sculptures from recycled plastic – one aspect that the city of Miami found particularly appealing. “Recycling is so much a part of the culture now that it’s easy to forget how important it is and that we can always do more. This fun art project will make people stop and wonder— and then stop and think,” says Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower.<br />The installation’s official name is “The REgeneration Art project,” but it’s best characterized by the name of its website: <a title="pink snails" href="http://www.pinksnails.com/" jquery1323190328628="45">pinksnails.com</a>. While in Florida, some of the snails will also be lit by solar-powered lights, but we anticipate all of them will stick out like alien orbs along the Miami expressways, provoking laughter, rolled eyes, and maybe a sense of amused foreboding.</div>emilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11637990590624797565noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603410706516918511.post-26585032790905715702011-12-06T10:41:00.000-06:002011-12-06T10:41:43.352-06:00Cool Globes<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw6wq-I0kAERevXtTRwGo2QnLayh_VBkN-7icSTM1eq0lCSPwpqWAtLf6EtaDct9Ngh4rWEHN7dlU8ows5sY6j26iG1ACYG5dPxigck2uz24_Dvm4yaayamr9hyphenhyphenSXtrbs63cJDFKHo1mrF/s1600/5Aug08_PublicArt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw6wq-I0kAERevXtTRwGo2QnLayh_VBkN-7icSTM1eq0lCSPwpqWAtLf6EtaDct9Ngh4rWEHN7dlU8ows5sY6j26iG1ACYG5dPxigck2uz24_Dvm4yaayamr9hyphenhyphenSXtrbs63cJDFKHo1mrF/s320/5Aug08_PublicArt.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div><br />

This was created by artists Gavin & the Gang to show some earth-loving initiative designed to depict simple solutions to global warming. They are sending an environmental message and it's also attractive and will bring in more tourists.Aviahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01023304780502985453noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603410706516918511.post-22361305211446037062011-12-05T21:59:00.003-06:002011-12-05T22:04:21.989-06:00Green Corner<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbuH3uz4zzmr1UKOxp2DYQzpNc0M5GjSB1rjpCpDRL0v8ESeTXeOZyT4gwDu5ARjCGkbm3w1xiE3rFb0uTXAxKAUv2aDhCAbuIUUb8B8rt50vd3BzHdIjqMSvs3IjNXgy96TdxUa23VhbU/s1600/reclaimed-2-600x449.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbuH3uz4zzmr1UKOxp2DYQzpNc0M5GjSB1rjpCpDRL0v8ESeTXeOZyT4gwDu5ARjCGkbm3w1xiE3rFb0uTXAxKAUv2aDhCAbuIUUb8B8rt50vd3BzHdIjqMSvs3IjNXgy96TdxUa23VhbU/s320/reclaimed-2-600x449.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682860650809567154" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWmEi0FajBAI2EeoNh4Z5HgDW2kXucl4ePdufF-_co6GiM1ROFtG2lYdbOl0WadlX5i-2bxSY4ufQuevHoDcl78l9aF6nYTkAnSPvAiFAQC-HlfA4od4gj83CIWs4BDMkxUut-aXDNS71N/s1600/reclaimed-1-600x449.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWmEi0FajBAI2EeoNh4Z5HgDW2kXucl4ePdufF-_co6GiM1ROFtG2lYdbOl0WadlX5i-2bxSY4ufQuevHoDcl78l9aF6nYTkAnSPvAiFAQC-HlfA4od4gj83CIWs4BDMkxUut-aXDNS71N/s320/reclaimed-1-600x449.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682860565314576994" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrMC1h569HymfVcEkRL8a-UIJvBOYDDgxSrqFlfXAqq7EI6NE8NidvnlulDqAC-Ch2e8sXUn7zQwCR10jCWdhlsZgl6YTYMSAWimp7ltu9Z1slyiePLyc-19uvngZfvZ9HBWJgWVacRSsI/s1600/reclaimed-5-600x448.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrMC1h569HymfVcEkRL8a-UIJvBOYDDgxSrqFlfXAqq7EI6NE8NidvnlulDqAC-Ch2e8sXUn7zQwCR10jCWdhlsZgl6YTYMSAWimp7ltu9Z1slyiePLyc-19uvngZfvZ9HBWJgWVacRSsI/s320/reclaimed-5-600x448.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682860470925392066" border="0" /></a><br />Green Corner, a collaboration between Otto Karvonen and Jon Irigoyen, is a spatial artwork consisting of lawn that is installed on a parking space. The lawn is equipped with some comfortable garden furniture, to provide a relaxing break in the middle of the hectic urban space. The work raises questions about public space in general; to whom it belongs and what can be done with it.Jesse Brawleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16222212792174744918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603410706516918511.post-51705773559767830032011-12-05T17:10:00.001-06:002011-12-05T17:18:20.163-06:00Street Art: Joshua Allen Harris' Inflatable Bag Monsters<iframe width="459" height="344" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PH6xCT2aTSo?fs=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><div><br /></div><div>Street artist Joshua Allen Harris is another great example of what you can achieve with discarded materials and creative ingenuity. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally uploaded images will be made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or in a group; posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window to a wall of portraits on an abandoned building or a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and viewable virtually."<div><br />I feel like this is public because they have videos on how you can get involved.<br />http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-EOXDcAphZk</div>Larryian [Lari] Taylorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06132880124702967738noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603410706516918511.post-67293632898473353272011-12-01T14:34:00.002-06:002011-12-01T15:02:01.029-06:00Pixel Pour 2.0<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijKJaJJUz6SC8gXDZFLrNxiBY4Tah-v6yF2xdwa7uip4aULTjbo92ugnudEyVO49mwFV5eHGqUIP3qC3cJj6ucUvi8l1yvilW07ltPkc42QtzlCTw_Ed2imMeTUwDAMv1tsifWmrWVIxld/s1600/pixel-pour-2-0-mercer-street-nyc-01.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijKJaJJUz6SC8gXDZFLrNxiBY4Tah-v6yF2xdwa7uip4aULTjbo92ugnudEyVO49mwFV5eHGqUIP3qC3cJj6ucUvi8l1yvilW07ltPkc42QtzlCTw_Ed2imMeTUwDAMv1tsifWmrWVIxld/s320/pixel-pour-2-0-mercer-street-nyc-01.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5681261479112061842" border="0" /></a>There's no doubt that we're living in a society that's becoming more digitized with each passing day. Possibly serving as a satirical take of our world today or as a simple poke to our daily routine, Kelly Goeller has installed a pixelated rendition of water pouring out onto the Mercer Street in SoHo New York. Nevertheless, the piece can certainly lighten any passerby's day.Jesse Brawleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16222212792174744918noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7603410706516918511.post-31891030320698645352011-11-29T11:18:00.002-06:002011-11-29T11:25:49.804-06:00Animal Crackers!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7W3Xixp_3dmNpLfzBXawIXTmy9qfxUzI5wcG8jXT8hWB3h7Sl_-0QCB2CA93xo3WE5L-WFCLYwZsBXZMnjWoScBzJS3i6QCMjZbZRjx9MkN2F8Aj1bBvc9ipwDGcGVjIc0htJ5fzD4fs/s1600/animal+crackers.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 219px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7W3Xixp_3dmNpLfzBXawIXTmy9qfxUzI5wcG8jXT8hWB3h7Sl_-0QCB2CA93xo3WE5L-WFCLYwZsBXZMnjWoScBzJS3i6QCMjZbZRjx9MkN2F8Aj1bBvc9ipwDGcGVjIc0htJ5fzD4fs/s320/animal+crackers.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5680468522936810994" /></a>This fantastically playful sculpture sits outside of the Corrales Bosque Gallery in New Mexico. This is an upside down church sculpture, made of aluminum. It was done by Dennis Oppenheim and first placed in Vancouver in 1997. It now stands in Calgary and will remain there until 2013. This piece has inspired controversy since it was installed.<br />

Because of this, you have through this evening comment. I will send the final version to Matt Bailey in the External Relations Office on Wednesday morning. I look forward to your feedback!<br />________<br /><br />The twin mandates from our culture command us to consume “more, more, more” and do it “faster, faster, faster.” These ideas of waste and haste seem inextricably linked. In an effort to meditate on our own habits and lifestyle, the students of ART 201: Issues in Public Art have created a counter-mantra that encourages us to “Grow More” and “Waste Less.”<br /><br />“Grow More”, spelled out in moss, suggests that our appetite for more might be better satisfied by the slower, more thoughtful act of creation, rather than consumption. “Waste Less”, spelled out in trash collected from our own homes, dorm rooms, and campus, highlights the impact of our current habits while calling us to a different approach.<br /><br />By placing the piece in downtown Shreveport, we aim to engage the broader public in reflecting on their own consumption habits, prompting a shift away from the haste-waste paradigm toward a more sustainable approach.J.
