The Bathing Woman by Oliver Voss

"In Hamburg, Germany, smack dab in the middle of the community’s beloved Alster lake, sits a new and shockingly large sculpture of a bathing female, courtesy of the British beauty products company Soap & Glory. Named Die Badende, the 13-foot high, 67-foot long sculpture stands as a oversized thank you to the Germans for their overwhelming support of the company. Designed by artist and advertising school head Oliver Voss, the sculpture consists solely of steel, styrofoam, and a heavy paint job, and weighs in at a hefty two tons. " People will always come in contact with this piece because of where it is stationed.

Wonder how much they built to go underwater. You know. In case water levels recede and all that. Would kind of be awkward if there was just a woman's head on a beam in the middle of a shallow lake.

This is very neat. Mainly because it is kind of odd to me.

Also, if it is not permanent, how long did this sculpture stand? I was just wondering about the maintenance it might take to keep a sculpture in water looking nice, especially being styrofoam.

I was also wondering how much of the woman is actually there. I think it's a great interactive piece because it leaves a lot to the imagination and considering the location it is pretty much impossible to avoid.

I think this is a really fun peice. It is really different. I like it. I think it would be fun to be on a boat and randomly see that...
