Dale Chihuly

V&A CHANDELIER, 2001

When Dale Chihuly, an American artist who was born in 1941 in Tacoma Washington first started traveling to Europe in 1962 he visited the Victoria and Albert Museum and it was one of his favorite museums in all the world. When asked to create a sculpture for the main entrance it was a huge honor. He thought the most important issues in creating this were scale and color. He did this by creating new forms and combining color in the composition in a special way. The most exciting thing that happened concerning this work was that Queen Elizabeth was booked to open this new exhibition, giving Chihuly the opportunity to celebrate the chandeliers installation with a Royal Event.
I was in London this past spring and saw this awesome chandelier and he definitely accomplished what he set out to do. The colors and shapes are truly magic.

I love the colors that he used and how it looks almost like a shooting star breaking out of a shell or something pretty cool

I think this really displays how taking something with such vibrant colors and fluent movement can add such a focal point to a building.
