Radioactive Control, Installation of 100 Glowing Figures in Hazmat Suits

“Radioactive Control” is an installation of 100 glowing zombie-like figures in hazmat suits, created for the 2011 Dockville Art Festival in Hamburg, Germany. The installation is by Luzinterruptus, a Spanish art collective. Here is their statement:

"With our mysterious army of 100 illuminated radioactive figures, which advanced threateningly on the natural environment of the festival, we wanted to invite reflection regarding the use and abuse of nuclear energy, cheap in economic terms, but which can cause grave secondary effects for the environment and health, forever irreversible."

What do you think? Is this thought-provoking or just fun to look at?

It kind of makes me wonder what sort of materials they used and how they got them to glow since it's an installation driven by environmental consciousness. I saw that they mentioned there being no damages, were they referring to the land or the figures themselves?

On another note, it's definitely fun to look at. I love the location and the body posture. Very zombie-esque.

The glow paired with the white suits creates a haunting, ghost-like scene. I think it definitely accomplishes their goal to make people think.

This certainly does send an environmental message. The use of the glowing hazmat suites and clustered figures makes me think of a scene from a post apocalyptic disaster.

Again, this sends a message about what we are doing do our environment!! It gives a very scary feeling which must have been the artists intention. I like the idea of it and it is interesting to look at.
