Water is Life

This is an "urban river" created in The Netherlands by Henk Hofstra in April 2007. Blue paint covers 1000 meters of this road to represent the transformation of the foundation. A waterway or river once flowed where this blue road is now. Along the road, large white letters spell out "WATER IS LIFE". I feel that this road makes a large impact on how important nature it. It sort of gives a condolence to what used to exist in this area. It's hard to imagine that a river used to run in this area because the city has completely taken over the foundation. There are also small things added to this piece of art, like a sinking car and blue trash cans. This piece is an example of the limitless things you can do with public art.

I think this is a very interesting way to commerate or draw attention to a river once being there. It's also really cool that they were able to do 100 meters of the road blue. I feel like that wouldn't ever happen in the US.

I like the fact that it brings in to consideration what humans have done to the environment over the years.

I like it because it reflects in a loud and extreme way the terrible things we have done to our land. I would think it would make those traveling that road stop and think about how to better preserve our environment.
